After several false starts, Picton Rangers FC belatedly celebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday 25 June 2022, at Hume Sportsground. Members past and present, including foundation members Bill and Jean Porteous, gathered to share stories and reminisce about club history.
Seniors’ games, food and entertainment made for a fun afternoon, with formal presentations acknowledging the commitment of club volunteers throughout the years.
Rangers out celebrating the club’s 50th anniversary en masse
The day included several special awards – George Johnson, in recognition of his 50-year involvement with the club, was presented with a commemorative sign from Club Captain and lifelong friend Scott Miranda. Shauna Mazuran was awarded Life Membership for her many years of service to the club. And Andrew Merchant was named Mal Ball Club Person of the Year for his excellent work securing a large grant for the upgrade of Picton Sportsground.
It was great to see so many young and old Rangers celebrate everything that makes our club great. Our Football South Coast teams won in all three grades, finishing off a memorable and remarkable day at Hume Oval.
Picton Rangers Football Club was established in 1971 and has grown steadily over the past five decades. The 2022 season saw more than 400 registered players and coaches across 38 teams in the Football South Coast and Macarthur Football Association leagues.
